My work is an ongoing conversation with methods and materials. It is object-oriented and based on printmaking and assemblage.
The cyanotype prints are made on cotton fabric, usually stitched to printmaking paper, some with added materials. The usual subjects are life sciences and feminism.
The collages are abstract compositions that incorporate various papers marked with paint (by stamping, rolling, brushwork, or monoprinting). Recycled printed matter (old dictionary pages), and fabrics (scraps of silk, gauze, or tulle) are frequent additions. The results are evidence of processes such as mapping, filtration, editing, and revision.
Intaglios shown here are from the 1980s, when the conversation became focused on themes that are still relevant.
1970-73: Virginia Commonwealth University, Crafts major concentrating in fiber and metal
1974-76: J. Sergeant Reynolds Community College, Richmond VA (AAS in Dental Laboratory Technology) concentrating in gold crown and bridge work
1980-82: Cornell University (BFA), concentrating in sculpture and printmaking
1983-85 Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey (MFA in visual arts)
On completion of my academic education, I received a grant from the New Jersey State Council for the Arts and participated in exhibitions and studio experiences in the New York-New Jersey area. After a few years, I turned to an editorial career in medical/pharmaceutical advertising that left little studio time. Returning to the Ithaca area in 2015, I began participating in group exhibitions in the region and nationwide, receiving occasional juror recognition.
